As a Data Centre Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring, response and communications of the building management systems and responding to alarms as required and providing daily support via phone and e-mail on a variety of issues, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, and performs audits and rounds on a variety of equipment and systems. You will be part of a multi-talented team that exemplifies customer focus, delivers 100% Data Centre availability and strives to exceed targets. You will be responsible for the support of the overall health and operations of the building envelope, customer deliverables and Data Centre infrastructure such as Power, HVAC and monitoring systems. In this role you will support Qu vision, customer base and global initiatives.
You will support presales conversations, while supporting daily rounds, perform or oversee data center infrastructure maintenance and customer deployments. You will work collaboratively with other departments to deliver supporting IT infrastructure and provide a feedback loop on potential product enhancements from the data center perspective.
A successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge of critical infrastructure, Data Center operations, a calm approach when responding to stressful situations, and be able to self-manage a flexible work schedule.
This position is on-site and not a remote position. Edmonton has 2 Data Centres. During the work week, the employee in this position may be requested to work out of either of the 2 Data Centres.
What you'll do
- Maintain the data center in a well-organized, clean, and professional manner.
- Monitor the building’s HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems using the DCIM and building management system (BMS) and walk through rounds.
- Conduct scheduled physical inspections of the building’s infrastructure and equipment.
- Perform emergency maintenance when necessary and as directed by the Client.
- Work with Service Delivery and Data Centre engineers to perform data entry tasks for ongoing infrastructure changes.
- Perform installation of co-location and hosting cabinets according to DCM specifications.
- Responsible for initiating IRT escalations in customer impacting or infrastructure/redundancy loss events.
- Provide local access and escort for vendors and carriers.
- Provide and tracking carrier access for circuit installations.
- Work with local management to maintain cabling and general usage item inventory levels.
- Perform remote hands work for internal and external customers.
- Identify and escalate internal and external issues to the appropriate teams/individuals.
- Respond in a timely manner to facilities alarms.
- Maintain detailed documentation of facility status using the daily log, trouble tickets, physical inspection checklist, and other documentation as required.
- Perform installation and management of fiber and copper structured cabling as directed by the Data Centre Manager.
- Perform electrical audits and labelling when possible. Ensure documented polices and standards are adhered to, and any risks Identified are solutioned.
- Maintain and manage physical security of data center and ensure that all work performed within the Data Centre follows company policies and local safety regulations.
- Drive adherence to compliance requirements and ensure any non-compliant findings are remediated.
- Managing and coordinating of Client MACD’s (Moves/Adds/Changes/Deletions) in environment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Data Center facilities.
- University Degree or College Diploma in a technical or other relevant discipline preferred.
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Able to understand mechanical and electrical systems, designs, and drawings. (e.g. HVAC, condensers, electrical distribution infrastructure, single line diagrams, air flow dynamics, engineering drawings, etc.)
- Diverse knowledge and experience with monitoring and maintenance tools (BMS, Any Desk, DCIM)
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft M365 products including Visio, Excel, and Project.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and good command of the English language.
- Strong interpersonal, organization, and time management skills.
- Experience in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent knowledge of infrastructure.
- Able to learn new technical concepts quickly and create appropriate audience documentation.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, nights & weekends, including holidays.
- Provide general 24/7 availability to respond to emergencies (excluding planned time off).
- Comfortable adapting to changes in requirements and responsibilities.
- Be a self-starter, take a proactive approach and drive innovation, have an analytical nature, be calm under pressure, and have a passion for problem-solving
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labour
- Access to reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license.
